Method for combining ATUS activity categories
Activity categories can change over time, either getting split out from one into two or more categories or being collapsed from two or more into one category. In general, we follow the Bureau of Labor Statistics' recommendations for combining activity categories. Our coding scheme collapses categories according to BLS recommendations. See the table below for details on categories that split over time.
