SPAGE is a 3-digit numeric variable reporting the age in years of the respondent's spouse or unmarried partner. This variable ranges between 0-85 with the exception of 81-84 (see top codes).

996 = Refused
997 = Don't know
998 = Blank
999 = NIU (Not in universe)

2003-2004: 80 years.
2005+: 85 years. Persons aged 80-84 are assigned a code of 80 and persons age 85+ are assigned a code of 85.

Description

SPAGE reports the age in years of the respondent's spouse or unmarried partner.

An individual's age is reported as of his/her last birthday.

Some ages reported are too young for marriage. Users will need to decide what to do with the illogical values.
