Description
OCC2_CPS8 reports the respondent's primary occupation. Researchers who would like more detail may wish to use OCC_CPS8.
OCC2_CPS8 was drawn from the final CPS interview, conducted 2-5 months before the ATUS interview. Detailed occupational codes are also available in OCC_CPS8. Occupation information for the respondent's main job was also collected at the time of the ATUS interview. See OCC for four-digit Census occupational categories (and OCC2 for general categories).
If a respondent has another (second) job, OCC_OJ_CPS8 reports the occupation information for that job using the same four-digit Census categories as OCC_CPS8. OCC2_OJ_CPS8 reports occupation information for the second job using the broader categories. Information on the respondent's second job was not collected at the time of the ATUS interview.
Comparability
This variable is comparable across years aside from changes in detailed occupation codes (see OCC_CPS8).
Universe
- CPS Civilians 15+ who: were currently employed; or had worked previously and were looking for work; or were not currently in the labor force but had worked previously.
