Description

MBPL indicates whether the person's mother was born in the United States, and, if not, her foreign country of birth.

MBPL was drawn from the final CPS interview, conducted 2-5 months before the ATUS interview. Mother's birthplace was not updated during the ATUS interview.

Information on father's birthplace is also available (FBPL), as is information on the respondent's birthplace (BPL).
