ATUS Sample Descriptions

All samples contain time diary data for ATUS respondents only which span one 24-hour period. The data are nationally representative of the civilian, non-institutionalized population age 15 and older. Due to the complex sample design, users of ATUS data must make use of weights to produce representative statistics (WT06 is recommended for ATUS-X users, except for users of Eating and Health Module data who should use EHWT and users of Well-Being Module data who should use AWBWT).
