WHERE
Description
WHERE reports the location of the activity.
WHERE is recorded for all activities except sleeping (0101xx), grooming (0102xx), personal activities (0104xx), "respondent refused to answer" (500105), and "respondent didn't remember" (500106).
WHERE is available only if you select a hierarchical extract. If you request a hierarchical extract and plan to construct time use variables in your statistics package, this variable may be useful to you. If you request a rectangular extract and plan to construct time use variables through the extract system, WHERE will not be included in your extract, as persons are the unit of observation for rectangular extracts rather than activity or who records.
Comparability
Three locations (bank, gym/health club, and post office) were added in October 2004. Prior to that date, those locations would have been classified as "other place."
Universe
2003-2007, 2009-2010: All activities except sleeping, grooming, personal activities, respondent refused to answer, and respondent didn't remember.
