HH_ NUMOWNKIDS reports the number of the respondent's own children under the age of 18 who live in the household.

The total number of people in the household is also available (see HH_SIZE). The total number of children in the household is available as well (see HH_NUMKIDS). Other variables simply indicate the presence of a child in the household (see HH_CHILD) or the presence of the respondent's own child in the household (see HH_OWNCHILD).

The number of respondent's own children was collected at the time of the ATUS interview, 2-5 months after the final CPS interview.
