2011 ATUS-X Workshop
We will hold a three-day workshop introducing the American Time Use Survey (ATUS) and the ATUS Data Extract Builder (ATUS-X). The ATUS is a general-purpose time use survey sponsored by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The survey has been conducted annually since 2003. The ATUS-X is a new tool designed to make it easy for researchers to create time use variables and extract customized ATUS data files that are ready for analysis.
The workshop will be conducted over three days at the University of Maryland from June 20-22, 2011. It is designed primarily for researchers who are new to the analysis of time use data. BLS staff members, the research team that developed the ATUS-X, and other experienced time use researchers will give presentations; lab sessions will provide hands-on experience using the ATUS-X; and small-group sessions will give participants the opportunity to discuss their own time use research ideas.
Domestic air fares, local transportation costs, and hotel accommodations for the ATUS-X workshop and the research conference following the workshop will be covered for all workshop participants. To apply for the worskhop you are required to provide your personal contact information and some additional background information; contact information for an advisor or senior colleague who will be asked to provide a letter of support; and a short personal statement about your current areas of research and why you would like to attend the ATUS-X workshop. We will contact your advisor or senior colleague via email using the contact information you provide to request a letter of support after you complete the application form. Completed applications are due March 1, 2011.
